Marine Environment

The Marine Environment Programme is included under the Environmental Programme and its objectives include achievement and maintaining of the good condition of Baltic Sea marine environment, supporting the research and development works required for this, and supporting the preventive activity necessary for ensuring efficient pollution control in case of possible major accidents. Grants can be applied for every year (generally twice a year) and the grants are applied for and the projects implemented in accordance with the Environmental Program rules and the relevant Regulation of the Minister of the Environment. The amount allocated for grants varies from year to year, because it is directly dependent on the environmental charges received.

The following are supported from the Marine Environment Programme:
1) activities contributing to the achievement of good or excellent condition of the marine environment and increasing of the potential for usage of marine ecosystem services, i.e. seafood;
2) research and development works required for better arrangement of the protection of marine environment and administration of protected marine areas;
3) methodology-related research and development works contributing to assessment of the condition of marine environment and improvement of the monitoring quality;
4) industrial technology developments directly aimed at enhancement of the assessment of marine environment condition, monitoring and research;
5) enhancement of the pollution control capacity of ports, enhancement of pollution control capacity on the territories of local government units bordering the sea, and arrangement of subject-related training.
