Drinking water and wastewater

Grants for wastewater treatment and ensuring the conformity of drinking water with the requirements can be applied for from the Environmental Programme and the Cohesion Fund. As the supported activities overlap, the cost of the project is the determining factor – projects with a cost of up to 958 675 euros are financed from the Environmental Programme and projects in excess of that amount are financed from the Cohesion Fund. Grants are applied for, and projects implemented, under the water management scheme of the Environmental Programme in accordance with the Environmental Programme rules and the relevant Regulation of the Minister of the Environment, while in the case of the Cohesion Fund the approved regulations of the relevant measures will apply.

The amount allocated for grants from the Environmental Program varies from year to year, because it directly depends on the environmental fees received, while the amount planned for financing projects from the Cohesion Fund in 2007–2013 is 409 million euros.

The following activities are supported in the areas of drinking water and wastewater:
1) In the area of wastewater treatment, activities to bring the existing sewerage systems into conformity with applicable requirements and to develop sewerage systems covering wastewater collection areas are to be supported.
2) In connection with ensuring drinking water supply that meets the relevant requirements, activities to reconstruct and construct new drinking water systems with drinking water purification equipment and to maintain the good condition of ground water.
