Non-hazardous waste and recycling

The Environmental Programme finances following activities related to non-hazardous waste:
1) construction of waste management plants and reloading plants, if the cost does not exceed 5 million kroons, on the basis of local government waste management plans;
2) construction of waste collection points on the basis of local government waste management plans;
3) development and implementation of newer waste treatment systems and waste handling technologies.

Cohesion Fund: development of waste collection, sorting and recycling
The supported activities have to conform to the activities determined in the National Waste Management Plan for 2008–2013 in the area of waste recycling development. Up to the present, there have been two application rounds and a third one is expected. The following activities are supported:
1) construction of a waste management centre or reloading plant or waste management plant, the eligible costs of which are at least 5 million kroon;
2) recycling of bio-waste collected by type;
3) development of the recycling of waste which recovery options have formerly been non-existent or limited, related to the fulfilment of the waste recovery and recycling targets established by legal acts.

Cohesion Fund: the extension of the landfill areas of waste treatment centres with landfill areas
The activities supported under the measures include the extension of the landfill areas of such waste treatment centres, which have been servicing South-Eastern Estonia since 16 July 2009. Financing is given to projects which are in conformity with the National Waste Management Plan for 2008–2013 and the local government waste management plans, covering the activities necessary for the development of waste management in a city or rural municipality.

The activities supported under the measures include building a waste treatment centre with landfill areas in South-East Estonia. Financing is given to projects which are in conformity with the National Waste Management Plan for 2008–2013 and the local government waste management plans, covering the activities necessary for the development of waste management in a city or rural municipality.
