Hazardous waste
Hazardous waste means waste which due to its harmful effect may pose a hazard to health, property or the environment. The classification of waste as hazardous waste is regulated by the Government of the Republic Regulation No 103 of 6 April 2004, "Procedure for the Classification of Waste as Hazardous Waste". EIC provides support for the collection and treatment of hazardous waste from the waste management program of the Environmental Programme and grants are applied for and projects implemented in accordance with the Environmental Programme rules and the relevant Regulation of the Minister of the Environment. The amount allocated for grants varies from year to year, because it is directly dependent on the environmental charges received.Environmental Programme supports the following activities related to hazardous waste:
1) development of hazardous waste treatment systems, which contain regional hazardous waste collection centres and local collection point networks;
2) organisation of hazardous waste collection rounds in non-urban settlements, where there are no other possibilities for disposing of hazardous waste generated in household activities;
3) treatment of hazardous waste, the owner of which cannot be determined;
4) collection of dangerous waste (with the exception of waste from products of concern) from the population and processing thereof at a hazardous waste collection facility, waste plant, transfer station or waste conditioning centre holding the required activity licence and belonging to a local government or a legal person founded by local governments, if the applicant for support is a local government unit or a legal person founded by local governments.
